Comprised of a collection of lodges, campgrounds, cottages, and condo-hotel units in the Côte-du-Nord region, Essipit Holiday provides visitors with access to an unspoiled territory of land and lakes that are known for spectacular vistas, authentic Innu trout fishing and wildlife viewing. Jimmy Lakes Outfitter offers eight lakeside cottages and 32 cozy riverfront condo units that accommodate families and friends who want to get away from their urban routines. While some guests opt to simply reconnect with nature and soak up the solitude, others choose more active experiences such as sea kayaking or whale watching, a must for visitors to Quebec’s Côte-du-Nord Innu is much more than a language — it is a singular way of experiencing the world. Visitors to this region have opportunities to connect deeply with nature. “Time stops and I can see our guests slowing down and being transformed by our serene environment,” says Villeneuve, who has been working with Essipit for 26 years. “That’s what I love most about my job, and why I’ve been working here for so long.”

storytellers and promoting local B&Bs. “We include the community wherever possible,” says James. “And everyone treats visitors like family.” Cultural day trips via Zodiac go to four ancient village sites, including SGang Gwaay Llnagaay (Ninstints) on SGang Gwaay (Anthony Island), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through old-growth forest, spot wildlife on land and sea and savour a traditional wild salmon beach barbecue. Join a fishing trip or stay for several days at a Cultural immersion camp where fees fund Haida youth camps. “We’re building understanding, not with politics,” says James, “but by getting people out on the land.” Drift slowly at high tide into Hlk’yah GawGa (Windy Bay). Observe the 12.8-metre, ornately carved “Legacy Pole” that appears near the shoreline, set against a rainforest backdrop. Listen to a Haida woman on board as she drums a rhythm that echoes across the bay. “This is where the line was drawn in the sand,” says James Cowpar, pointing to a hillside ravaged by clear-cut logging on Athlii Gwaay (Lyell Island), “where Haida people finally stopped the logging after 15 years of effort.” On shore, guests meet Haida Gwaii Watchmen, some of whom participated in the 1985 blockade that shut down the destruction of old-growth forest.

Siwash Lake Resort
“Located in a remote and rugged corner of the Cariboo region in BC, our Indigenous-owned and operated luxury wilderness resort is renowned for delivering world-class outdoor experiences for adventure seekers of all types. Our ranch-resort comes with rustic, yet refined, touches — all meticulously intertwined with Secwepemc Culture and history. The word ‘Siwash’ is from ...
Chinook jargon, directly translated from French sauvage it means ‘wild, natural and untamed’, Used as a verb, it describes camping without a tent, which is what local First Nations did for the past five thousand years, travelling lightly through the wilderness around Siwash Lake for exploration, hunting, and gathering. Today, we share those traditions with you: learn the art of fly-fishing; forage for wild plants and learn how to use them for food and medicine; feel the bond between horses and humans; traverse through hidden waters via canoe, and embrace the skill of wilderness survival — just as our Ancestors did. Connect to our natural world, immerse yourself in a luxury tented safari on the Ridge at Siwash Star Camp™. Drift off to sleep with the gentle hooting of an owl under a canopy of stars, then wake to loon songs echoing from Siwash Lake below. Start your day off right with a leisurely hike to the lodge, then settle on the panoramic sundeck for breakfast with farm-fresh, organic ingredients, harvested on site. While crafting our world-class eco-resort and luxury guest ranch, our main focus has always been on striving to be true stewards of the land, to grow with the land, not onto it. Siwash is honoured by National Geographic as a Unique Lodge of the World and for being a world-leader in sustainable tourism.”
