The Innu community of Unamen Shipu, located in Quebec’s Lower North Shore offers stays of 4 or 5 days at sea on an isolated island of the immense Sainte-Marie archipelago, accessible via Zodiac boats. The site is ideal for observing thousands of birds, including sea parrots and northern gannets, while fishing lobster the traditional way. The Etamamiou outfitter provides for exceptional salmon sport fishing with one of the highest success rates in America. As of 2021, members of the community will be able to receive visitors from all over the world for stays of one or two weeks. These stays will be possible year-round and will offer “wellness in the forest”, which melds Indigenous knowledge dating back millennia with the Japanese art of Shinrin-Yoku, a truly unique experience in the world!
